12 Step

12 Step Jewelry

In any 12 Step Program, an individual works through each step along with a sponsor.  As the individual makes progress through the program and attends meetings regularly, they will be awarded ‘chips’ to mark certain days of progress in these meetings. The 12 Step Program is based on strong support through the fellowship in these meetings with other addicts and alcoholics.  One way that someone may show support for the group, the fellowship, and for there own self support, is through 12 Step Jewelry. 12 Step Jewelry can be many different things: Rings, bracelets, anklets, earrings, necklaces, pendants and stones. This jewelry represents the dedication of the individual to the fellowship and commitment to the group.  The signature sign for the 12 Step Program is a circle enclosing a triangle.  The circle stands for the whole world and the triangle is for recovery, unity and service.  This is what AA and NA stands for and is committed to.  Recovery is for the addicts and alcoholics that are in need of help from addiction.  Unity is the tight fellowship and support for one another.  Service is the commitment of one recovering addict or alcoholic helping another that may be caught up in the vicious cycle of hopelessness and helplessness.

The first step in AA, Step One, is Acceptance: ‘We admitted we were powerless over alcohol-that our lives had become unmanageable.’  The stone used to represent this step, Acceptance, is Amethyst.  Amethyst symbolizes Sobriety and Abstinence.  The next step, Step Two, is Faith: ‘Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.’  The representative stone for this step is Peridot.  Peridot helps someone who is having trouble finding a Higher Power.  Surrender is Step Three: ‘Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.’ Smokey Quartz represents this step, as it helps to set aside any headstrong behavior. Step Four, Honesty: ‘Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.’  Turquoise symbolizes honesty.  Step Five, Courage: ‘Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.’ Carnelian is the stone for courage.  Step Six, Willingness: ‘Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.’  Fluorite helps to build spirit.  Step Seven, Humility: ‘Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.’  The Quartz Crystal is the symbol for this step.  It represents Universal healing and wisdom. The remaining steps each have a stone that represents and symbolizes each one.

So, if you want and need the help and decide that the 12 Step Program is for you, by all means start going to meetings and get on your way to recovery.  If you find that you may need a little personal support for yourself or want to help another, get  a piece of 12 Step Jewelry, whether it be a spiritual stone or a necklace, and be a  proud supporter of the fellowship!
