Percocet Addiction Treatment, Rehab and Help

Percocet is a brand name of a prescription drug made up of oxycodone and acetaminophen, and it is prescribed for severe pain.  The oxycodone in Percocet is a semi synthetic opioid analgesic which is a powerful narcotic used to relieve pain.  Although very effective in relieving pain, oxycodone can be very addictive as a person becomes dependent on the pain relief. Percocet addiction has become an epidemic in today’s society, but there are many ways to get Percocet addiction help. A person can develop a dependency to Percocet after being prescribed to the drug as a pain relief or from illegal use, buying the drug of the “black market”.  The oxycodone in Percocet causes a euphoric feeling by blocking the pain receptors to the central nervous system.  This means that the more Percocet a person takes the better they will feel.  As a result, the individual will begin to take more and more Percocet, thinking they will feel better and better.  Also, their body will build up a tolerance to the oxycodone, and they will need to take more and more Percocet to get that euphoric feeling.  Soon, a person prescribed to Percocet for a simple pain has developed a dependency for the drug.  A medical prescription to Percocet can become a full blown drug addiction.

When a person develops a Percocet addiction, they will experience intense physical and mental cravings.  They will become obsessed with obtaining the drug, so they can feel that sense of euphoria that comes after taking Percocet. Too much Percocet can cause loss of concentration, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, and drowsiness.  After a short time of using Percocet, a person’s brain goes through chemical changes, causing them to want the drug all the time.  A person addicted to Percocet will not be able to function normally without the drug.    Their personal relationships will deteriorate.  They will begin to use Percocet at work, usually resulting in loss of employment. The person will spend all of their extra money on Percocet.  After losing their job and spending all their money on drugs, they will experience extreme financial difficulties.  They will do anything to obtain the drug.  They will begin buying the drug illegally, resulting in legal problems.   Life can become very grim very quick.

A person addicted to Percocet must seek Percocet addiction treatment.  Because of their physical and mental dependency, a Percocet addict may require help to get off the drug, like Percocet rehab. They will experience withdraw symptoms including insomnia, restlessness, diarrhea, vomiting and sensitivity to pain. Although withdraw from Percocet treatment can be very discomforting, it will be well worth the pain in the long run.  A person who has lost everything can get their life back once they quit the drug.

Percocet addiction can happen to anyone.  Someone prescribed to the drug for moderate pain can quickly develop a dependency, so be careful when using this drug.
