Drug Abuse Information

Do you or a loved one have a problem with drugs?  Do you find that you can’t get through the day without the help of a little pill or a puff of something?  If you answer ‘yes’ to either of these questions, you may need some help.  There are many ways to get all of the Drug Abuse Information that you need to help you or your loved one get back on track in life and stop the addiction. Addiction has been defined in the past only to apply to drugs like heroin, where the withdrawal is a physical and often painful experience.  Today, the term ‘substance abuse’ includes both physical dependence and psychological dependence.  Someone who smokes marijuana daily is a substance abuser just as much as someone with a chronic heroin habit, even though the withdrawal effects may differ greatly:  One being a psychological addiction and the other a more physical addiction.

There are different classes of substances that affect the brain. ‘Psychostimulants’ are drugs like cocaine and other amphetamines.  These drugs stimulate receptors in the brain by effecting dopamine levels.  Cocaine blocks certain receptors in the brain making more dopamine to be released and to stimulate other brain receptors, which in turn, gives the individual the ‘high’.  There are other substances that affect the serotonin levels of the brain, acting the same way in brain, but releasing a different chemical, serotonin.

Drug abuse is found in all economic, political and religious backgrounds. Drugs abusers are living and dying in every corner of America.  Drugs are affecting the lives of someone we know each day.  The first step in over coming addiction is to recognize it and to seek the help.

A large group of those that abuse drugs begin with the experimenting of the drug.  Many will experiment with it a few times and then discard them.  The next group of drug abuse begins with the week-end, or recreational user: Those that may smoke pot at parties or will take a few pills with friends on the weekend.  And last there is the group that will start using drugs and end up depending on the drug or drugs to make them happy or to ‘help’ them through problems in life.  This is the group that are the most likely to end up with an addiction that is out of their control.

Drug Abuse Information is the key to helping to control the future of the lives of many people that are affected with a drug problem.  Lives are being saved each and everyday and people who thought that they had lost everything, are now living happy, productive and drug free lives.  If you are having a problem with drug abuse or know someone who is, please seek help and get started on a new life.
