How Narconon Handles Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol can consume your life, it can be all that matters, and all you want. When people have a drinking problem they can either know what they are doing and they know it is bad, and they want to stop but just can’t, or they see no problem with it and do not want to get help. Alcohol can impair your brain function, motor skills, and it can increase the risk of liver disease, and cancer. There are many risks when it comes to drinking, or doing any drug for that matter. In 2009, 51.9% of Americans 12 and older reported using alcohol at least once within 30 days of being surveyed. There is a wide spread of alcohol use and abuse throughout the United States.

Alcohol Myths

There are a lot of myths when it comes to alcohol, some of these myths are:
•        I can drink and still be in control
•        Drinking isn’t really dangerous
•        I can sober up fast if I have to
•        It’s ok for me to drink to keep up with men
•        I can still drive okay after a few drinks
•        I just need to learn how to hold my liquor
•        Beer isn’t as strong as liquor

Now I can tell you why these are myths and not true. You cannot drink and still be in control, because drinking makes you have bad judgment which means you are more likely going to do something that you would not normally do, and later regret.

Drinking is really dangerous, one in three 18 to 24 year old that are admitted into emergency rooms for serious injuries are intoxicated, and alcohol is also a factor in homicides, suicides, and drowning.

You can’t just sober up whenever you want, it takes about three hours for the affects of two drinks to start wearing off and nothing can speed up this process, not cold showers, coffee, or bread. It is not ok for women to drink as much as men. Women process alcohol differently than men, and if you drink as much as a man does you are going to be more intoxicated than him.  Even if you have only had a few drinks you still should not drive. If you are under age and get caught drinking while driving, no matter how much you drank you could lose your license, and almost one half of all fatal car accidents among 18 to 24 year olds, involve alcohol. You do not need to learn how to hold your liquor, if you start to have to drink more to get the affect, then your body is building a tolerance to alcohol, which is not good as this could lead to dependence.

Alcohol Effects

A lot of people do not know that beer actually does have just as much of an affect as liquor, a 12 ounce bottle of beer has the same amount of alcohol as a regular shot of 80 proof liquor, whether it is in a shot or a mixed drink. So all of these myths are exactly what they are called and they are not true at all. Here at Narconon we believe that addiction is not a disease, it is cure able, and you do not have to deal with it for the rest of your life. We do not do a medical detox here, which is where they give you a substitute medication to replace the drug that you are on, and make the withdrawal stage easier. The problem with this is that, when you do this you pose a risk of getting addicted to whatever it was they were giving you. Whether it is Suboxone, or methadone, or anything else they may have gave you, you are at a risk of becoming dependant on it.

How Narconon Handles Alcohol Addiction

Here at Narconon we give you all natural vitamins and minerals, to get you through your withdrawal process. We also have a dry heat sauna that you sit in to help alleviate the physical cravings. You also do some light aerobics every day, and you are put on a daily vitamin regimen. After that process is completed, you will then go into the actual program. When you get into this part of the program, you will go through several courses, that will not only help you with your addiction, but all of these courses help with everyday problems in life. Once you have went through all of the courses, and completed the program you will go through a final review process. This process is to insure that you have learned everything that you need to know to stay clean, and they will also insure that you know how to apply all of the information that you learned.

After all of this is done you will write up a discharge plan, in this plan you will make a list of any problems that may be waiting for you at home, and you will also compile a list of actions that you will take to fix those problems. Then you will make a list of goals that you want to achieve in your life as far as, work, family, and relationships, you will also write the actions that you will take to reach these goals. When you go home, you will be contacted frequently by someone from Narconon, to insure that you are meeting all of your goals and we will help you fix any problems you may be having.
