In San Francisco like many other places in the U.S drug abuse prevention is high on the to do list. School aged children are the primary target for prevention awareness information because the earlier they learn the truth about drugs and alcohol the easier it will be for them to make rational decisions and avoid addiction themselves. Most school curriculums have some sort of drug education for students of all ages. Programs like D.A.R.E. and many others have been helping children stay drug free for over ten years. Narconon’s premier facility Narconon Arrowhead has been delivering drug education to school children and through out communities since 2001.
Today’s children are faced with more pressures than children where 50 years ago. There are also many more types of drugs readily available for children to get their hands on. Children are being prescribed more and more psychotropic drugs by doctors for things such as ADHD ( Attention Deficient Hypertension Disorder). They are starting to experiment on their own at earlier ages with drugs and alcohol because they have poor or little supervision. Once children are hooked on drugs it is hard for them to grow mentally, emotionally and physically at the proper rate, which is why so many youngsters find themselves falling behind in today’s fast paced world.
The challenging world of the 21 Century is a hard place for a child to grow up especially if they do not have the proper guidance. Parents who spend time with their children and educate them about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and who take part in activities with their children have a better chance of keeping their child drug free for a life time. Instilling family values, strong family ties, solid community roots, work ethic, personal integrity are all important to raising healthy children who can make good decisions even when you are not there to lead them by the hand. Weather you are a parent or not it’s important to take the time with the young people you know to help influence them in a positive way. Most of the youth today are need of a mentor and becoming one is easy. There are thousands of children who are in need of assistance and guidance and by giving a little of your time you can help the future generations to come stay drug free.
