Drug Substance Abuse

Many people are not fully familiar with the things that come along with drug substance abuse. The abuse of drugs and other substances affects much more than just the physical part of a person. The mental and emotional stress that comes along with needing a drug every day before you can function is devastating. People who are addicted to drugs will ruin many opportunities and stab their loved ones in the back. They will eventually have to quit or face being homeless and alone. There are much worse consequences that come from this type of lifestyle. Jail time and death are frequent occurrences in the drug world. When people are caught up in the cycle of addiction they are capable of practically anything except living a normal life. Many well behaved children and successful adults will turn into criminals and thieves due to the ravages of drug abuse. They will forget anything they have learned about how to be a good person. Their desire for drugs will be so strong that it will overtake their willpower to abstain from certain activities.

Many female drug addicts will turn to prostitution. They can make up to one thousand dollars a day or more, which is more than enough money for them to support their habit. If they were working a legal job and using in the same manner, they would probably get fired and not make any where near the same amount of money. If a female does not technically prostitute herself out, she may date a drug dealer who she is only with for drugs, and he is only using her for sex. This type of behavior is more common than one would expect.

Many people move from casual drug use to drug abuse and addiction. Drugs like cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin, alter gene expression and brain circuitry. Once drug abuse crosses into addiction, the compulsive drug craving, seeking and use occurs. This is what makes the difference between recreational drug users and full blown drug addicts. The first thought that is always in their mind is how to get more of their drug. Even if they have enough to be high right now, they will still be stressing while they are high about how to get more of the drug because they know that they will face painful withdrawals if they run out. It is a non stop rat race to find more of the drug. It never satisfies and the more you take of it the more you need to keep the feeling going.

This is the sad truth about drug substance abuse, but there is hope. If you or someone you love has a problem with drugs, get help.
